🐈 !!!
After months of not going anywhere with my housing company, plus setting aside money painfully, it seems things are getting unstuck. It's not official yet, but I might be able to hire someone to secure my balcony soon-ish ! And that means : adopting a kitten is on the horizon.

I'm going to need your help, Mastodon :
please give me recommendations of professionals who install (no piercing, no gluing) cat nets on windows and balconies in France.

!!!!!!!!!!!

according to the popular vote of the fb group "chats : jardins et balcons sécurisés", it would seem that the best are "Tiger" !

There's also Climbing Cat, that does sort of the same stuff but delivered to you and that you're supposed to assemble yourself (maybe it's less expensive).

I heard about "mon chat mon amour" but the opinions on it are mitigated. Some are very happy though (and it's like 300€ for 1 window which is not awful - price from 2 years ago)

@leroimiracle : thank you :)
I had all those links (as well as a couple of others like catsafe) but having feedback is really important too. And since I don't have a FB account anymore, this is data I wouldn't have found otherwise.

@leroimiracle : 300€ for a window is a lot ?
I had done a simulation 2 years ago that estimated 600€ for the balcony, which obviously is much bigger than a window.

"(maybe it's less expensive)."
Yeah, the thing is, at this point my building asks that it's done by professionals to guarantee safety (they briefly mentioned insurance but I'm not sure to what extent insurance comes into play here), and because they don't want random sh*t installed by tenants. But I was going to do that anyway -

@leroimiracle : - because there's no way I can balance my fat a** on a crutch while installing sh*t on the 5th floor.

@ladyteruki
300€ is considered no so much but it was a big window. They do degressive prices (i also saw 3 windows for 700€, from the same). It would seem Tiger are not that much more expensive.
Either way they all give quotes before working so you will be able to compare.

Yeah, i threw in Climbing Cat just in case. Tbh I wasn't that happy either while installing my handmade protection on my own window, and we're barely on the third floor 😬

@leroimiracle : yeah, I think the main issue here will be to account for the shutters. I don't really have a photo (and if I tried to take one now, well...), but basically the building is fairly recent (~90s) and the shutters open vertically. I'm not sure I'm explaining well XD But in any case these are not traditional windows like this because if they were installed like that, they'd block out the shutters.

@ladyteruki

aaah 🤔 well i'm sure they must know something for that

@leroimiracle : yeah or at least have ideas about how to work around the constraint. Hopefully it's not going to require too much funds ; I can always take away from the computer budget but then that means no new computer next year and possibly the one after that. And my 2015 computer is really starting to struggle so it's going to be a balancing act.
@ladyteruki ouch ye.
I hope it's not going to be too expensive 😖
@leroimiracle : we'll see. I budgeted for the balcony and the kitchen window (I have a second window in the bedroom but the shutters are always kept because of my migraines, so that I have an emergency "dark room" when things are bad, so in effect I don't think it needs to be secured : the shutters do the securing instead ? hopefully that works for you), and we'll see from there.

@ladyteruki

Well technically a kitten would not be able to go through shutters, so it should be enough, for me and for anyone 😄

@leroimiracle : thanks, that's reassuring :) Budgeting for a window I never open would add quite a while.
@ladyteruki
what i usually see mandatory for organisations are the securisation of balconies, i usually add "and of often opened windows", but a few months ago i left a cat go without securisations, but people had a vmc and were therefore never opening their windows (which i find weird, but, well).
@leroimiracle : yeah that's... that's a VMC, not AC. But fine, whatever. It's their disgusting air they're breathing. Personally I live with the kitchen window open, I'd feel claustrophobic otherwise, but to each their own. Weirdos XD
@ladyteruki yeah that's what i thought, too 😅
@leroimiracle : honestly, I don't know what this particular kitten will throw at me, but Tom & Trix never even looked at the kitchen window. Why would you when you have access to a whole damn bay window with a balcony behind it, afterall ?
@ladyteruki ah, i feel that. i really look forward to see what your future kitten is going to find.
