@peterbrown I remembered after I posted my reply to you that she was a MacLeod. I think of that surname being connected to the western islands of Scotland. In traveling in Nova Scotia, I've encountered some McLeods whose roots were on those islands and who continued to speak Gaelic well into the latter part of the 20th century.

Incidentally, since Trump seems to think that there is something wrong with not having English as your first language, it should be pointed out that his own mother had Gaelic as her first language, not English.

So an economic migrant whose first language was not English .
