Quote-boosting to see if @mattblaze might have some advice for my friend. https://sfba.social/@drahardja/115641866932046546

I rented a Rokinon tilt-shift lens for my Nikon DSLR and took it out for the first time today. Boy do I feel like I need two more hands to operate this thing. While the operation of the “shift” is pretty straightforward, the “tilt” is a lot harder to control. It’s very difficult to see where the effictive focal plane is through the viewfinder or live preview. I’d appreciate and tips and tricks! #photography

@tylerstone I can't imagine trying to use tilt/swing movements without the camera on a tripod. Also, you have a much easier time focusing once you can visualize the relationship of the lens angle with the plane of focus via the Scheimpflug rule.
@tylerstone Also, forget about the DSLR viewfinder for focusing. You really need live view to dial in the angle and the focus.
@mattblaze Advice forwarded. Thanks! #MastodonHelps
