72G of the 685G from my music collection copied from the old NAS box to the new one. TV series, documentaries, ebooks, pictures already done. Soon the old machine can be mostly retired and kept as emergency storage station. I fear the spinning drives in the old box can give up soon. 10 years of service is quite a lot to ask, even if they are good Western Digital Red drives.

Here is another reason why the upgrade was needed. The new box (a Lenovo Tiny m720q with a 4 core i3 8100 processor) is just so much faster and plenty compared to the old box, a HP Microserver Gen 10 with dual core AMD Opteron(tm) X3216 APU cores. The rsync I am using to move the files over saturates the old box while the new one has plenty of headroom.

ADDENDUM: The `rsync` command runs inside a `screen` session so it keeps on running until it's done, even when I close my laptop to go to sleep ;) And yes, just like with Samba, I get full saturation on the gigabit network link.

ADDENDUM 2: OK, that took a bit longer but it's all done. All data from the old NAS box is now on the new NAS box. And I found so many old pictures while watching the filenames fly by. Like in 2011, when I was at #Tahrir square in Cairo, in the middle of ArabSpring. Feels like a lifetime ago and as if it was yesterday at the same time. Anyway, time to sleep.
