Advertising is just the graffiti of the rich. The poor get fined for tagging a wall, while corporations are paid to deface our entire visual landscape. It's the same act of vandalism, just with a budget that buys legitimacy.

@yogthos

This must be the stupidest shit I read all day.

The purpose of graffiti is a claim, or even art. It is a means of expression, of existing. Often in spite of suppression.

Advertising, on the other hand, is expressing nothing. It only expresses its message superficially, opportunistically, as a requirement for its purpose, not as claim, and certainly not as art. If advertising could be beamed directly in our brains, it would.

What an insulting and ignorant thing to say about graffiti.

@7heo

The original point that both force a message on a captive audience stands. Saying that is one form of public marking is art and the other soulless is missing it entirely.

Graffiti asserts a personal or political claim while advertising asserts a commercial one. Neither asked for your permission. Yet one is legally sanctioned while the other is not.

Next time, try actually thinking about what you read before you start insulting people.

@yogthos @7heo

i think that i understand your point now, but i do not know that i agree. But right now, i think that some truth is hidden behind the insults; i misinterpreted your first post, too.
