@georgetakei It’s insane that denouncing the unprovoked assault of a sovereign nation is now worthy of praise. That should be the baseline expectation. The bar has been lowered to the floor.
@georgetakei Not sure when "annexation" replaced "invasion". Technically, they mean the same thing, but annex seems more benign than invade. Had we used "invasion" when Russia invaded Crimea, would we have paid more attention?

@ncw413 @georgetakei Not the same: annexation means absorbing the territory into one's own, invasion not necessarily. For instance, USA invaded Afghanistan but didn't annex it.

If anything I'd say that annexation is harder to excuse - invasion could sometimes be justified as self-defence or liberation (cf. D-Day) but harder to justify permanent takeover.
