I was thinking about giving this one the catchy title “Stupid cars for stupid people”, but let’s just say I have a strong opinion about these kind of vehicles, especially in settings where they don’t belong.

Trucks like that were made for the wide open spaces of North American states and provinces, and we don't want them here either.

(I was born in #Groningen, but have lived in Canada most of my life. I still have fond memories of staying with my Oma and Opa in the #Grunobuurt; I love your photos of modern-day Groningen!)

@bobjonkman Hi Bob. Thanks for your kind words.

Over here you see cars like this more and more, unfortunately. In general, cars are becoming bigger and bigger (autobesitas we call it).

And the Grunobuurt has changed a lot, older houses torn down, new ones built. Where did your opa and oma live?

@pauladieterman

Yes, I've been following the "renovation" of the #Grunobuurt for many years. My sister has a book about the Grunobuurt, I'll have to swipe it the next time I'm there. Grunobuurt had lots of interesting architecture like brickwork patterns and brick design around windows that I don't recall seeing anywhere else.

My Mom was born at Westinghousestraat 1A in 1928, so Oma and Opa must have been some of the first residents in #Grunobuurt. They had moved downstairs to Westinghousestraat 1 by 1929, that was a nice unit with a large back yard for the area. My Mom told me they used to keep chickens. Oma and Opa moved to the other side of the block to Paterswoldseweg 114A in the mid-1970s, with the balcony overlooking the yard from Westinghousestraat 1.

@bobjonkman that part of the Grunobuurt has changed quite a bit, I’m afraid. Paterswoldseweg 114 also has been demolished to make way for new constructions. There is the photo archive website of Groningen (https://www.beeldbankgroningen.nl/beelden/?q=Westinghousestraat&mode=gallery&view=horizontal), maybe you’ll find something that’s familiar for you

Yes, I've been watching far too much @rtvnoord and #OogTV so I've seen the nieuwbouw.

It'll be nice to look at some familiar pictures. Thanx for the link!
