Bye bye Windows! 🐧

#linux #windows

@itsfoss not quite true with laptops as it is with pc.

Some new laptops are struggling with Linux and new graphics cards.

Took me months to discuss software with a developer while trying to make it play nice with Linux for it to buck me off of it all because of a graphics driver and spanking new motherboard.

Linux still has some work to do. Kde plasma isn’t working at par yet to let go of windows.

I really really wanted this to work but we aren’t here yet.

@Smoogy @itsfoss KDE is one of the more janky GUI's you can use. Just use a different one and you'll be on your way. If you still want a 'Windows' like UI, try Cinnamon. For older hardware, XFCE. I'm becoming a fan of XFCE thanks to MX Linux.
@mrgrumpymonkey @itsfoss can’t. Wish I could. Some softwares do not develop for anything but plasma. And each motherboard is also different on how it handles that. So right now one computer is running plasma perfectly fine. The other not so much because of the shitty driver. So it’s stuck with windows for now just so I can get work done.
@Smoogy @itsfoss That is a logical concern. Perhaps you could run the M$ OS through a VM, unless you require full system functionality of a direct host. Anyway, keep trucking through Linux. You'll make it to the other side.
@mrgrumpymonkey @itsfoss yup. Today I started playing with Nobara which magically let one of the softwares work without a hitch. Even got to reset my display to be working on dynamic again. Very chuffed with that. Only problem is getting the other software to work then I’ll be in a much better place with this laptop with linux
@Smoogy @itsfoss Distro hopping is part of finding what you're comfortable with. Nobara was one I tested out, but ended up running into more problems than I could fix. I don't just use my system for gaming, and Nobara had issues with some 'linux only' software, for reasons. It's not a Nobara fault, it's more of a Fedora quirk I am not fond of. If it works great for you, then that's what matters.
