Here’s a bonus #Sunrise view of Three Fingered Jack from the top on Maxwell Butte in the Jefferson Wilderness.
@andrewbriscoe what a nice view, congrats!
@andrewbriscoe I've seen the Jefferson Wilderness from the Three Sisters Wilderness, but I've never been there, Jefferson Park and the meadows look amazing.
@sunumbral A lot of it is burnt but there are still some nice areas. I’ve been to Jefferson Park several times and do really like it. Somehow it managed to be saved from the fires. All the lakes on the west side are pretty nice. But the mosquitoes are next level horrendous in June and July.
@andrewbriscoe I remember hiking in the Sisters Wilderness that time of year, and anyplace you had to crawl under a log or something was thick with mosquitos.
@andrewbriscoe precioso e impresionante.
Cuando veo estas vistas me siento pequeño.

@andrewbriscoe

Spectacular.

Spent a fantastic week in the Entiat valley in September or October 2002. Didn't 't see anyone other than the three in our group the entire time (excluding the last mile or so on the way out). Bears. Snow. Goats. Larches were popp'n!

@lolcat Thank you! Beautiful photo! Looks like an amazing trip. I would love to see some Larches in full color.

@andrewbriscoe

Thank *you* for triggering memories of this adventure.

Sadly, the camera I used was a pretty basic, early digital point and shoot. Worse, the only images I can find are from a website I made to share them with friends which required downscaling to useable back then.

Here's some larches from a high camp on that trip. A storm was approaching, so they appear somewhat muted in that light.

@andrewbriscoe

This is the campsite from which the previous photo was taken. I believe this was at the base of the N face of Mt. Maude. We weren't summiting any of these peaks - just exploring.

Thanks for being OK with me sharing these here - I can imagine it coming off as rude, leaping into the comments on your photo with photos of my own.

@lolcat No, I love seeing photos! They still look great on my phone, which is my primary device. Amazing to see the yellow/orange contrasting with the darker tones. There are a lot of larches in northern Washington state but I never seem to make it up there at the right time. Someday.
@andrewbriscoe That's the most gorgeous shot of Three Fingered Jack I've ever seen. Absolutely stunning. And I haven't climbed it in, geez, at least 20 years. I'm thinking maybe I should start getting back in shape.
@msbellows Wow, thank you! I was certainly amazed at the color. I slept on the side of it along the PCT a couple months ago but I haven’t climbed it yet. Any idea how technical it is? A couple maybe teens passed me on the trail and they might have been carrying a rope.
@andrewbriscoe It's definitely technical, but not too difficult. You go up the right side, then need to traverse the backside of that horizontal ridge with a thousand feet of exposure below you, so people lay a horizontal rope and slide a prusik along it as they cross in case they slip. Then the summit pinnacle is a nice straight one-rope climb right to the top. A good beginner's climb if there's someone experienced along.
@msbellows I might be too scared of exposure to do it, even with someone experienced. Anything with ropes might be too much for me. But it is an awesome mountain.
