I wrote another blog post. Look at this graph! https://coppolaemilio.com/entries/tech-is-opt-in/
Tech is opt-in

Entire youtube channels, blogs, and talks about what was released yesterday. A whole internet about comparing benchmarking and analyzing every new product. Discussions in forums, and social media, comparisons between brands, people taking sides. It is honestly exhausting.

Emi's Blog
@emi_cpl I can relate to that. It feels like we're being sold a better solution, when in fact it's just consumerism hiding behind it.
We are probably already so conditioned that something new always has to come out, automatically questioning a long-standing solution.

@emi_cpl My previous machine was 11 or 12 years old before I replaced it. Performance-wise, it was still okay, but I was starting to miss some CPU features like perf counters, and software compiled with AVX extensions wouldn't run.

I spec'ed my new machine to last at least a decade as well. It's literally 5 times faster on all fronts – but I notice it only when compiling.
