What has to be asked is how US Catholics have gotten themselves to this place: Who have been their pastoral and moral leaders in recent decades?
If the answer is that they're the same set of bishops now telling Catholics to welcome immigrants and treat them humanely, then the bishops need to own their complicity in creating the conditions for more than half of white Catholics to vote for Trump three times.
