AMBIO is working for 10 years, now (AMBIO is short for Advances Medical BIOimaging core facility of the @ChariteBerlin ) and Nikon supported us from the start, AMBIO is also a "Nikon Center of Excellence".

Today we have a symposium with lots of talks, but also expert tables, device demos and an microscopy image competition.Brace for some talk summaries and probably very pretty flourescence microscopy images. #AMBIO10years #AMBIO, sponsored by #Nikon at Charité CCO Campus Mtte.

After some nice introduction speeches by Britta Eickholt, the dean of faculty, and the #Nikon General Manager Daniel Ciepielewski, our #AMBIO Head Jan Schmoranzer gives an overview over the last 10 years of core facility work.

Now, Ralf Jungmann from the MPI Biochemistry in Munich is talking about their approach of sub nanometer flourescence microscopy with DNA-Paint and RESI with many biological applications. #AMBIO10years

And here the image of Ralf Jungmanns last slide and a link to his Lab: https://www.biochem.mpg.de/jungmann/
Next is Marina Mikhaylova from HU Berlin, talking about Imaging in Neuroscience. #AMBIO10years
Closing the morning session is Kai Murk, from the AG Eickholt, here at Charitė. He is talking about Astrocytes, and mainly about astrocytes in tissue and reaction to injury and wounds, with some examples also from live cell imaging. #AMBIO10years
After a short coffee break, Jost Enninga from Institue Pasteur Paris is talking about intracellular lifestyles of pathogenes, and how he and his group is observing this at the microscope. #AMBIO10years
Jost presented a workflow and a toolbox to analyse data for everyone to use. This was all to quick, I could not include videos, but the capabilities are very impressive, judging from the animations/zoom. Link to code: https://gitlab.pasteur.fr/iah-public/2024_swistak_et_al_code
#AMBIO10years
And one image more from Jost: How shigella bacteria poke holes in cell membranes with their "bacterial needles" #AMBIO10years
The next talk is by Nadja Hümpfer from the @ewerslab at @fubcp .
She did a lot of imaging at #AMBIO at our light-sheet microscope, to look at living cells for a long time, without photodamage. #AMBIO10years
Nadja could enter "the dark zone", the midbody, by expansion microscopy. Here is a slide with an overview of the principles of the technique she used for that. #AMBIO10years
Now Oliver Rocks from @ChariteBerlin is talking about... giant membrane rods, they found, did not what they were, found out that the effect is temperature dependent and started a project.
It is a fascinating journey he is taking us on. #AMBIO10years
Niklas Senghaas from #Nikon is giving an overview of how Nikon started to produce microscopes 100 years ago and then how #AMBIO started 10 years ago. Nikon had back than their biggest shipment ever - 14 Pallets of Microscopy stuff to Start AMBIO off.
We are a "Nikon Center of Excellence", that helps a lot to run our core facility at such high microscope booking numbers that we have, because of the excellent tech support! #AMBIO10years
After the lunch break, Jan Schmoranzer, the head of #AMBIO, tells us what is comming for the next #AMBIO10years , starting with new Systems and GPU Server next year and the long term plans further ahead.
Now Bettina Weigelin from @unituebingen is talking about multiscale microscopy to understand systematic immune response against metastatic cancer.
T-Cells can kill Tumor cells, but it is a stochastic process and needs more than one T-Cell, so they are not checking if they made the kill. Probably a saftey feature, but a problem against cancer. #AMBIO10years

Side note: I am tooting live from the symposium and I am chair of every other session. Alt text is rudimentary at the moment, I will go back to it and improve later, sorry. #alttext

update: Done

Bettina Weigelin continues her talk, with some results about cancer treatment, higher tempreatures and some learnings from that. This is pre-clinical data. #AMBIO10years
And now she introduces us to their tissue clearing approach to study a lot bigger pierces of tissue. #AMBIO10years
And her summary as a photo, fascinating talk. #AMBIO10years
Friedrich Johenning from the @ChariteBerlin is talking now about feeding behavior, and als analysing the sensing systemstics within the body and on a cellular level. #AMBIO10years
Now Felix Haymann from the @ChariteBerlin at Virchow Klinikum is talking about multiphoton imaging, intravital as well as flourescence life-time imaging and applying those techniques to investigating liver diseases. #AMBIO10years
Next talk is by Dragomir Milovanovic from @ChariteBerlin and @dzne about imaging the interfaces between condensates and membrane-bound organelles. #AMBIO10years
Susanne Wegmann of @ChariteBerlin and @dzne about her Favorit: Tau Protein (actually celebrating 20 years of discovery this year) and the fuzzy coat, containg several Tau Proteins, featuring a lot of microscopy images taken at #AMBIO. #AMBIO10years
After this, the winners of the microscopy image competition will be announced, and we have some handmade prizes for them. #AMBIO10years
The last talk is by Abin Biswas from Max Planck Insitute IB Berlin, presenting conserved nucleocytoplasmic density ratios drive cellular organization across eukaryotes. #AMBIO10years

Sorry for the break, it was a long symposium day and I had to go through a lot of photos as well.

After the last talk we had the awarding of prices of the microscopy image competition. 16 AMBIO Users handed in their favorite image taken at our core facility. I can't show them, because I did not had time to ask everyone, but I will show them, promise!

I show you the 14 Pallet shipment of #Nikon, our Founding as #AMBIO and Nikon Center of Excellence instead. #AMBIO10years

I just wanted to follow up with the important people here: Brita Eickholt, dean of faculty from the @ChariteBerlin was always supporting the idea of AMBIO and helped funding the core facility 10 years ago. #AMBIO10years
And #Nikon General Manager Daniel Ciepielewski was there, underlining the importance of #AMBIO also as one of the few Nikon Centers of Excellence worldwide. Being such a NCoE means that Nikon provides great service and we need that, because our usage of the microscopy systems is very high. So thank you for very short communication channels and also for sponsoring the Symposium! #AMBIO10years

And the last Photo of this thread (image competition is comming ;)) is one of my Boss, Head of #AMBIO, Jan Schmoranzer - great guy, I did my PhD with him as well, years ago before AMBIO.

I hope you enjoyed the impressions and some of the links of our celebration :)
