Somebody send this clip to Microsoft and let them know how customer see and feel about their products 🤣

@nixCraft I'm sure many are thinking it, but she should simply uninstall Office and install Libreoffice. Problem solved. Why do people put up with that kind of nanny software BS?
@elaterite @nixCraft They put up with it because that is all they know. I am 100% certain that she has never heard of Libreoffice and is completely unaware that such a thing exists. She bought a computer and probably got Windows pre-installed, likely thinks that Windows and PC are synonymous and has no idea that there are alternatives for her computer. As such, she needed a word processor and the one proposed by her computer is Word and so that's the word processor. The question of putting up with Word doesn't even come up. And I think this is entirely reasonable and the way it should be. What is unreasonable is that we as a society let Microsoft first get into this position and second abuse that position to cement themselves as the default. The EU is doing some work here to force the monopolies to present the choice that is available but so far mostly only regarding web browsers.

@krig Good to know about the EU. Back in OpenOffice days, I took a banner I had created to the local university library to print it. It was in an OO format. They said they couldn't print it. I suggested they install OO. They said they were unable to do that as it would violate the academic MS agreement or contract whatever. So I had to export it in PDF and take it back to get it printed.

@nixCraft

@elaterite @nixCraft Wow. That agreement seems exactly like the kind of thing that the EU would prohibit. But I honestly don’t know if that’s the case. Microsoft is definitely dominant in the edu space here as well.
