@Bruce if Masto allowed 5+ choices, i'd add "unofficially employed" here (as in "get paid, do work, no contract"). Not for me, but still common in some places
@Bruce I got two! (Jobs that is.)!
@Bruce@allovertheplace.caI am retired!
@Bruce no job, don't really want one, probably have to get one anyway
@Bruce After being a wage slave for 40+ years, I am no longer one. But, I do work, just not in the traditional sense...
@Bruce i have a job and don't want it
@Bruce Looking for work very actively!
@Bruce
The last two depend on what you mean by "a job". I don't want to work for a boss, but I would like to do something useful for humanity.
@Bruce @blindbat84 Currently employed, but its suck pay and bad hours so actively looking for better.

@Bruce

retired from paid employment
pursuing a nonpaid writing career

@Bruce @smallsco I retired so I could caregive for my husband full time (he’s got advanced alzheimer’s)… so I wasn’t sure if I should consider it ‘have a job but no pay’ or don’t have don’t want’.

@octothorpe @Bruce Sorry to hear about your husband. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease 😔

We lost my grandmother to dementia last year and in my experience, being a caregiver is a full time job. My grandpa tried to do it for a little while but it became too much for him and so we had to put her in a care home.

@smallsco @Bruce Yeah… he was diagnosed about 12 years ago, and probably had it a few years prior.

It’s a lot. But I’m also in a very lucky position to be very strong physically and mentally, and we’re both very financially stable.

@Bruce Between jobs and just taking it easy for a while. Maybe it'll look bad on my resume but I think I need a break
@Bruce I get money, and I do work, but I'm not "employed", nor would I ever again want to be employed, so should I select option four? I also do send money to people for working on Krita, but I don't "employ" them...
@Bruce I am retired and have a pension...... volunteering for the www.wwindea.org
@Bruce Does being self-employed count as "having a job"?

@Bruce I'm both 2 & 4. I'm an artist. I tried to find work for several years, but didn't take the rejection & response from family well. Reasons I was given for rejections were
1. No work history | experience.
2. Overqualified to flip a burger...??

Family's response to my repeated rejections from potential employers were
1. "Why didn't you get it? That doesn't make sense!"
2. "When are you going to get a REAL job?" [when I finally landed a part-time or seasonal | temporary gig]
3. "I don't get it. What are you doing wrong? WHY ARE YOU SELF-SABOTAGING?"

My spouse supports us. I've been working as an at-home artist without looking for work for years. This year, a neighbor invited me to a craft-fair event at their house & I got a little taste of what it might be like to actually sell my work. I'm working to build a Patreon & hopefully an online shop as well.

@Bruce Uni student that thankfully does not need a job (yet) to keep themselves afloat, since uni is public here (around 1k/year) and it's not like I could afford to move out *even* if were to get a job, lol.
