I was playing Arc Raiders, and the game crashed when I jumped from a moderate height and landed weird on a piece of geometry. I had a backpack full of good loot at the time. Annoyed, I sent the crash report from the dialog that appeared.

Then I relaunched the game…and it put me back exactly where I was in my earlier play session (minus the time that had elapsed since the crash). This is a live-service, multi-player game! Amazing.

(And, yes, I did exfil successfully.)

@siracusa
Reminds me of when Destiny finally added in the ability to rejoin after a Weasel or whatever error and it felt like magic after a decade of nightmarish disconnection consequences

We all still bear the scars of the Weasel

@siracusa That’s great to hear. Apex does a good job with this too. 100% of the game state is off the client. I’m always amazed when I get disconnected and come right back.
@siracusa yeah being able to rejoin is key in a game where you can permanently lose loot like this!
@siracusa I had the same exact thing happen. When I reconnected it said I wasn't able to join the previous game again, and I lost all loot, pack and guns. :(
Arc Raiders review - a smartly designed extraction shooter marred by one inexcusable decision

Rich combat and an unusually friendly community make Arc Raiders an cracking extraction shooter, but Embark Studios' continued use of AI voices is inexcusable.

@Bachus @siracusa you should try and get over it, you’re missing a fun game.

@siracusa "Then I relaunched the game…and it put me back exactly where I was in my earlier play session”

That's the spatial finder at work.

@siracusa you can drop connection in squads and you’re able to rejoin right where you were (assuming you survive during the downtime)
@siracusa Must give it a go. Logged on to D2 yesterday for the first time in months, so few players I could never get a match made game to launch. Gave up when my work Webex was over. 😂
@siracusa regarding Gruber, there will be more info from my point of view tomorrow. It looks like Gruber is a very smart manipulator, but I think at this point, it’s not difficult to figure this out. Human nature wise, there’s a version of the timeline that needs to be exchanged, but it doesn’t have to be now. When it comes to using the language, there will be an explanation to the loophole he was taking advantage of toward the end of the slides.
@siracusa amazing. I love that on my rx 590 I get 60+ fps when playing in 4k
@siracusa I have no idea if this is praise or a critique.
@Drwave Praise! I thought I’d lost all my stuff, which is what has happened to me in every similar networked game I’ve played.
@siracusa ah, couldn’t tell if going back meant you were stuck in a bad loop.
