@wonofone webp for all it's faults at least found an interesting niche.
Not even Google supports AMP anymore.
Except for Irfanview, of course, which opens just about anything (especially will all plugins installed)
@designthinkingcomic Genuine question just thrown out there, is WebP compatibility *still* an issue for most people out there as a whole or is it specific software that hasn't added support yet, e.g. big image editors or entire OSes that can't natively preview them (macOS? Windows?)?
It's been a while since I've had anything other than, like, JPGs and PNGs on either Macs or Windows machines in the little time I'm using them at work.
@snep @designthinkingcomic I have Telegram channels for some of my web sites, and WebP doesn't work there. I haven't bothered to set up convert-jpgs-to-webp-on-the-fly systems to use multiple formats, as well-compressed JPGs tend to be smaller than WebP images in any case.
MacOS has no problems working with WebP, all apps I use can handle them just fine. Telegram is the only one that I've seen where it's a problem.
I dunno. WebP images seem to open ok in my browser. Using LibreWolf on Linux Mint 22.

Animated avif: "How dare you complain?!"
Did you try animated avif?
I did, and I still use it 'cause it's the better way to have very light and quality animated images.
But very few software and platforms manage it :(
