#TBT Hot hits in USA #OTD 60 years ago, from the November 13, 1965 issue of the short-lived music business weekly "Sound Format". The number one country song looks topical. #Music #PopMusic #CountryMusic #RhythmAndBlues #ChartGeek
@7sleepersmusic You can tell I grew up in metro Detroit when I know the words to the top 10 R&B songs, but don't recognize titles of the top 10 pop songs.
@redcrew Come to think of it, same here! I know a few of the top pop songs, like the Rolling Stones and the Four Seasons. But I recognize almost all of the top R&B. I've got half of 'em in my collection! ๐ŸŽถ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ˜
@7sleepersmusic @redcrew I think this magazine got rid of both the pop and R&B charts soon after this anyway and went all country! (And then out of business.)
@Axonite @redcrew Interesting! And an issue from 1966 says "Sound Format Charts are based exclusively on the opinions of its editors." Which might explain why they went out of business, eh? BTW, ICYDN here's the source => https://www.worldradiohistory.com/Sound_Format.htm
SOUND FORMAT: 60's music trade magazine

Sound Format published briefly during the 60's. It was fist issued in June of 1965significant chart for all genres of music. By 1958, it reversed itself and published charts by music genre, and eventually evolved into a focus on the music played on the radio. It was edited by Charlie Lamb

@7sleepersmusic @redcrew The May issue is interesting, where they say the sales and airplay charts are garbage anyway! I wonder if the people who mailed in $35 for a 5 year subscription got their money back.
@Axonite @redcrew Turns out the guy behind it, Charlie Lamb, was editor + publisher of Music Reporter (1957-1964) and wrote for Cash Box. He was also a "carnival barker" (makes sense) and appeared in "Ernest Goes to Jail"! Quite a character, eh? https://musicrow.com/2012/03/charlie-lamb-passes/

@7sleepersmusic @redcrew He sounds like an interesting guy! It looks like Music Reporter changed to Music Business soon after he sold it, then he started Sound Format around the time they went out of business.
