@kde oh 3D... Thought that garbage died for good a decade ago... Guess it just needs some "AI" to be great or whatever. The Hardware looks useful.

Edit: of course there's no price for it and it releases when both ram and storage prices are exploding...

@TheOneDoc maybe 3D/VR isnt The Next Big Thing™, but it is still useful & fun technology. Why not let it exist?

Not everything overhyped is bad. Some things really have applications, just not *that* much

@kde

@mo
And I mean gaming sure is some application (though a quite exhausting one when you just it longer).
@TheOneDoc @kde
@mo @TheOneDoc @kde fully agree. Let it exist.
@TheOneDoc @kde they said the valve index pricing is the ceiling and they still determine the price.
The index costs 1079€. So thats the maximum but with steam deck they did pretty aggressive pricing and thats a much more recent product.
@kde Well if it isn’t the XBox replacement.
@kde great news! Will the headset work with Steam running on Bazzite?
@chaz6 @kde Most likely, its gonna be SteamVR afterall.
@chaz6 @kde If Bazzite supports ARM CPUs then It should
@kde I´d totally get it if i didn´t already have a really beefy machine. With KDE of course.

@steamos this is the year of the Linux desktop

yes it is and she's so beautiful and I love her so much

#steam-machine #steam-cube #steamos #linuxposting

@kde That’s huge! Finally getting a PC with Linux pre-installed. And from a giant company.

Hope we see Linux getting more recognition after this release. Love seeing Valve put effort to Linux!

@luukas @kde You can already get Notebooks with Linux preinstalled from big comanies like Dell.
@kde , це дуже крута новина! Я хочу більше чути про успіхи лінукса

oh wow they're doing foveated streaming, freaking brilliant 😍

Welcome back, Steam Machines.

@kde ooooooooooooh now this is a gaming PC I might actually consider buying…

Whether or not I buy the steam frames is honestly dependent on how well it does AR. If at all.

I just looked it up and apparently it’s only monochrome so idk

Like, I’m not exactly wooed by the UX of the Steam Deck. And I really have to sit down and ask myself if I really want a PC in another unconventional form factor that follows Valve’s “lay down the groundwork and let the individual fill in the blanks” approach that follows most of their software.
Im just bored with the current VR software lineup. There’s only one app that I can say keeps me occasionally coming back (VRChat) and I have serious questions about its future. If not its current state of performance.
Having a huge interest in tabletop games right now, my number one killer app would be like tabletop simulator but in your living space.
@soulfirethewolf There are no explicit plans right now, but the VR headset does have an expansion slot built in fwiw.
@kde Oh that's huge!
@kde really great, guys!!!! That's awesome

@kde That's all nice and well, but the real news here is that there'll be a new steam controller 🙂!

https://store.steampowered.com/sale/steamcontroller

Steam Controller

Your games at your fingertips

@kde I hope they're financially supporting KDE
@Cyborus @kde sort of, they have upstream devs on their payroll. They pay lots of upstream devs, including for mesa, wine, kernel graphics...it's actually pretty satisfying for me to watch their FOSS involvement
@mana_z @kde Payroll counts! Hooray!

@kde since nobody else has said it, will 2026 truly be the year of the Linux Desktop?

Between Valve pushing hard with great hardware running Linux (and brilliant compatibility), windows 10 having gone EOL last month (and folks doing one year of extended updates having that expire during '26) the tides may in fact be turning

@trainguyrom this would be cool. If steam machine will be popular, maybe developers will solve problem with anicheats on linux for their games

@kde Garbage with some Linux garbage installed, making it useless and against any normal everyday user.

Hard pass unless you're a collectionist.

@kde is it the year of the linux desktop yet?!
@kde which evangelion angel is this
@kde 2026 will be "the year of Linux Desktop" 😍
@kde Truly remarkable. Finally, a chance to enhance the experience of XR hardware by having Linux instead of Android.
