from the late 2000s to the late 2010s i would listen to music regularly when i was outside. but ever since they got rid of the headphone jacks on phones, i just dont do it anymore. its such a hassle now. oh are they charged up? oh ive lost one of the earbuds. uh the bluetooth hasnt paired? or has it? are they on? now everyone is hearing my music instead of me? wait i paired a different set of earphones? so i dont bother. i go without music. it's made my life a bit worse. less rich and enjoyable
apple has made my life slightly less rich and enjoyable
@jk I caved and bought a pair of Sony Whatever wireless buds a couple of months ago. I can't find the fuckers. They're somewhere in my house.
@guffo ive done this exact thing like 4 times now. its just made it even worse. the phone is like "do you want to pair with SONY WI-C500 or SONY WI-A500 or SONY WI-L500 or SONY WI-B500" and then the computer is like "do you want to pair with SONY WI-M500" and its just not very good is it. its not a good state of affairs

@jk Bluetooth is a source of constant pain.

The double fuckery of this situation is that while I spent a few weeks using the earbuds, I've managed to lose the squishy ear bits off of my wired headphones so now I can't use my iPod either.

I'm going to have to start from scratch in terms of headphones.

@jk thats so true !!! I hate tjose bluetooth shits too. Only wireless stuff i use is wireless internet thats all but cable is the best still

@jk

Wired headphones are so much simpler and better 👍

@jk @jalefkowit that’s a huge bummer. I have experienced this phenomenon in exact reverse: I would carry around a tangled ball of earphone wires which I would never manage to get untangled in time to actually listen to anything unless I was making a Whole Event of a walk outside with music; since I got my first pair of airpods I always have them with me and listen to music all the time.
@jk @jalefkowit so when I have heard this complaint I find it really confusing; if I did prefer wired headphones I imagine I would have a permanent dongle attached to a pair. does that not work for you because you use the same pair for multiple devices?
@glyph @jk Can't speak for them, but for me wireless headphones have horrible latency, a horrible tendency to stop working or refuse to pair or get paired to the wrong device, and usually a bit more audio compression than I?m happy with.

@jk That is so sad to read. I think the same is true of a lot of people.

I am still on wired headphones. I need them to be the same headphones when I am on the computer working on music and when I am outside listening to music. I use an adapter. I do not like it. It is not as good as when I could just plug them into my handComputer, but it'll have to do.

@jk Bought a new coat a few months ago, and it has a special little hole where you can feed headphone wires, down to the inside pocket, where you can store your phone.

...
That would've been awesome a decade ago.

@jk My phone still has a jack and I got a pair of sony headphones that costed me almost nothing yet have amazing quality for their price. I get the feeling there is no way such a product could exist wireless.
@jk I got a Sony Experia as they were one of the only phone brands to still provide a 3.5mm audio jack. I would definitely lose ear buds outside.
