An interesting coincidence how @willmcgugan’s weight loss blog post comes just 2 weeks after my own! Clearly, it’s a topic on people’s minds. My account involves no injections, so you can treat it as an alternative approach.

Losing weight is easy, I've done it lots of times! - Łukasz Langa

Wait, what? Yeah, I’ve done a few big diet runs in the past and regained lost weight, and then some. This April I started again, but did it better. I lost 19 kilograms in four months. I reached that point in late August, but wanted to give it at least two months before declaring victory publicly. Now I can tell you: the weight stayed down over conferences, vacation, holidays, and birthday parties. This looks sustainable. Let’s talk about it.

@ambv 19kg in 4 months is impressive. I’ve done low carb in the past and it has been very effective. Also agree that sugar is the enemy. That’s something I need to address off I want to keep the weight off.

@willmcgugan Yeah, now we're both in the same boat 😅 Maintenance is an entirely different journey. In my case, so far, so good🤞🏻🤞🏻

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, too!

@ambv Wow, really nice work!

Also why didn't I have your feed in my RSS reader yet?! *quickly rectifies the situation*

@foosel @ambv Might be due to how @ambv has separate feeds per topic? :)
@sethmlarson @foosel There is a firehose but I got a recent report it's currently broken haha

@ambv @sethmlarson I think the last time I only tried your start page and probably didn't notice then that my feed reader couldn't find an RSS on there, now I added stuff individually ^^

Reminds me to create a combined feed of my blog and til.

@ambv @willmcgugan my approach was more similar to yours, lost ~45 pounds that i'd gained over 2 pregnancies. i found intermittent fasting was easy once i stopped breastfeeding, my body seemed eager to get rid of the weight. it was so refreshing to not be hungry all the time!! and it was very interesting to observe how hunger timing is so based on routine, not an actual need for calories.
@pamelafox @willmcgugan Impressive! How long ago was that? Do you have any tips on maintenance?
@ambv @willmcgugan i lost it from sept 2024-may 2025 (my goal was to lose it by pycon!). I’m being realllly lax about maintenance because i’ve had bad experiences with being overly strict about eating approaches in the past. I do often eat breakfast now, some eggs or dark chocolate, but i still keep meals between 9am and 8pm. I try to find natural opportunities for accidental fasting, like distracting morning events or nighttime meetups (pizza does not tempt me!).
@ambv @willmcgugan my problem is that I'm already doing most of this stuff. In my case it's not the quality... it's the quantity I can't give up :/

@andreagrandi @willmcgugan I can relate. Western portion sizes are typically not planned with people of my size in mind. I have a tendency to eat too much, too. This is where two meals a day help. When you only eat twice a day, it's hard to create a caloric surplus.

But if you still struggle with that, then maybe what Will did makes more sense in your case? Neither of us are experts!

Good luck!

@ambv @willmcgugan these are my portions 😅 (the plate is a pizza size one)
@andreagrandi @ambv you probably aren’t over eating by that much. It doesn’t take much to set an upwards trend. That meal looks very healthy! Could you sacrifice the wine?
