I know it's wrong, but if I could kill all the mosquitoes, I would kill all the mosquitoes.
@pluralistic Such power, in the hands of one person?!
@pluralistic weren't we promised mosquito laser defense systems at one point? whatever happened to those
@pluralistic there’s a way to do that. Gene drives.
@pluralistic DDT did nothing wrong! (DDT did so much wrong)
@pluralistic same, I'm a mosquito magnet.
@pluralistic I would love you forever.
@pluralistic If I had slightly more precise powers instead of killing them all, I would in order:
- give them a boosted immune system to selectively kill human pathogens
- make them completely silent (or at least strongly repelled from human ears)
- make their bites no more itchy
@pluralistic Just need to do something to replace their ecosystem role first.

@pluralistic

There are like 3000 species of mosquitoes. Most don't bite if I understand correctly. A lot of the ones that do don't make you itch.

Mosquitoes are important food for other animals so there would be serious downstream effects of killing them all.

Maybe just kill the ones that transmit disease? I could live with an occasional itchy bite if I knew it wouldn't make me sick.

@pluralistic I th ink it'd be fine if we could just remove their wings. It's the buzzing around my head that's the killer. Let them walk upon the ground and they'd be 90% less annoying.
@pluralistic they would kill us all if they could, so that seems only fair…
@pluralistic same. i wouldn't even think twice.
@pluralistic Its never a good idea to fall to their level :(
@pluralistic
mosquitoes are the Robin Hoods of the animal kingdom. steal from the rich (large mammals) give to the poor (frogs and spiders)
