On a family trip to a wedding in Sonoma County California, I finally got to see something I have always wanted to see- the Redwood forests.

Since a child, I have always been fascinated with rainforests. This one collects its moisture from the fog rolling in off of the Pacific Ocean which provide water for an entire ecosystem below. The moss an mushrooms were in no short supply and there were numerous traces of fires from just 5 years ago.

These smaller fires actually help the redwood trees regrow and clear out the underbrush. The big trees have a bunch of fire resistant properties.
The immense, ancient trees make you feel tiny as you walk through the peaceful forest.

Yes I hugged a few giant trees and yes, we did stop for wine tasting- all delicious :)

@JamesAkers one of my favorite places, that. Although I go much less frequently since the fire.
@grechaw it really is peaceful, and wild that the living things around you have been there for SO long. The vineyards everywhere outside are neat too, but those forests are majestic
@JamesAkers well if you ever come back I'll share some of my local secret forests 😜
@grechaw I may take you up on it, we have some friends and now family in the area an we would love to visit again
