Microsoft admits Windows 11's right-click menu is cluttered, confirms fix for WinUI apps - programming.dev

Lemmy

They keep moving shit around, after spending billions on usability studies for winxp, and I assume the subsequent releases. Imagine if your car swapped the brake and throttle pedals, or just replaced them with a sequence of buttons on the dashboard. It’s monumentally stupid.

They keep moving shit around

Yep, this was the one that still annoys me the most (2 menus within the same menu - the usual vertical one, and another, horizontal, one, down after β€œmore options”. β€œWhere’s the cut option?? … Oh, it’s DOWN THERE now! πŸ€¬β€)

It’s genuinely insane how often they insist on reinventing everything.

Literally every time, they insist on changing nothing but rearranging things.

What a shitshow.

People: If it ain’t broke, then don’t fix it

Microsoft: if everyone is happy with it, then break/change it

The whole thing is a cluster fuck. I don’t understand how they keep making it worse. It’s still a crapshoot clicking whether or not your app is in search or start or neither.

It’s because of top down management dictating that all departments:

  • Must achieve 30% profit growth each financial year (prioritising higher short term profits to the detriment of long-term product viability)
  • Must place AI in as many places as possible to puff up usage numbers to justify the ridiculous amount of investor money they’ve spent on it in the past.
  • To add to that, every win11 pc I interact with takes a good 1-1000 2-1000 for the right click menu to actually show up.
