So I read Watchmen knowing “it was important” but not really anything else.

Initially it was confusing, with all the unfamiliar characters, but I was soon sucked in.

This was about 2004-ish, before the internet meme-ified everything. And well before the movie.

It was just great. There some major, *major* plot drops that hit like a sack of hammers. And it’s surrounded by incredible world building. Multiple readings are definitely rewarding.

I guess if you haven’t read it, I suggest resetting your expectations to zero, and giving it a good shot.

@troberts My then-17 son had his mind blown similarly on his first read. I don't know how many times he's read it at this point, but he has really incorporated the characters and events into his usual chatter and cultural analysis.

(I've read it and recognized the quality of the work, but it couldn't overcome the comic format for me. I just can't look at stuff and read stuff at the same time - it's a me problem.)
