The next 24-48hrs is going to be an entertaining meltdown.

I’m actually rather concerned about this situation. This can only lead to more aggressive behavior from trump. This is not good.
I see. Maybe giving the old orange rapist whatever he wants will make you feel better about things?
Trump is like that god mouth from Star Trek TOS. Just have to throw food and the village’s underage daughters in there to appease him.

Not what I’m saying at all. Mamdani is the best most qualifies and aligns with the will of the people.

Whaim saying is trump already has too much consolidated power and this won’t end well.

He has the left in a double-bind and this blue wave, as satisfying as it was to see it last night, is, I fear, not enough.

He’s already defying congress and the supreme court.

It’s great if this weakens him enough to remove his power, fantastic even, but I am not seeing it happening. Time will tell.

Last night’s results were a refreshing reminder how much of a lie it was that he had a “mandate”… I guess they only care enough to rig presidential elections. Lol.

The thing is, if Mamdani winning is “not good,” then what would be good? Is there any “good” thing the U.S. people can do, in your opinion?

We’re up against a fascist who’s already been aggressively attacking his own people. We have to be practical here. Overturning the old guard has to start somewhere. Any step toward resistance is going to piss off those in power, but isn’t that better than lying down and doing nothing?

Nothing would be good. We’re in a double bind.

I’m happy he won, but no matter what, bad shit is coming. I hope Trump’s overreaction to it is enough to turn the tide.

Quoth the liberal “Not this election cycle”

I’m happy Mamdani won. I like him as a candidate, and he seems like a good dude, from what I’ve seen. I just think that the results from the last 24h will push trump to greater depths of cruelty. It raises the stakes.

With any luck, trump will lash out, the US populace won’t have any of it, and he’ll lose all power, but I don’t see that happening. Instead, I see him tightening the clampdown and the citizenry just rolling over.

“If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let us do it” - Mark Twain

I mean the problem with this position is that the GOP doesn’t really need any excuse to escalate things. We’ve seen for decades now that if they can’t find real reasons to do some hateful thing they will fabricate reasons, lie outright, or simply do the thing anyway. There’s also the large historical parallel to nazi germany and Hitler. Europe tried to appease them by capitulating over and over and it got them nothing. The parallels are obvious to our current position and we can either resist as much as possible now and maybe stop things from getting that bad or we can roll over giving them what they want and things will just keep getting worse. They won’t stop because you roll over. They won’t ever have hurt people enough to satisfy them.

I guess I ought to just delete the reply. My position is not appeasement.

The position is exactly what you said. He wins, it’s bad, he loses, it’s bad. The Republicans are going to be deplorable or more deplorable. We’re fucked either way and it gets worse before better no matter what we do.

Did you see an edit on my post? I’m wondering if it didn’t populate yet.

Have a nice day.

That’s fair. Appeasement worked really well for Neville Chamberlain, so we should follow his lead and just give Trump this one thing. I’m sure, based on his track record, he won’t demand anything else.
Appeasement did its job. It gave Britain time to retool for war. He also fell on his political sword, at the end. That let Churchill actually defend Britain, with a clean slate, and the military he had built.
Putting aside the hypothetical about which side benefitted more from appeasement, what’s the equivalent here? Give Trump everything he wants and hope that he let’s you still have an honest election in 2026? 2028? Hope that he leaves office after two terms when his biggest projects seem to be adding jets and ballrooms to his taste? Hope that he keeps over and dies? And what are you willing to give up for those hopes? Martial law in Chicago? An NYC mayor who’s more focused on feeling up his secretaries than on addressing the cost of living crisis? Mass deportation of American citizens? Forced and intentional starvation of American citizens? Destruction and corporate capture of our federal institutions? Obliteration of the rule of law? Continued support for genocide in the Middle East and abandonment of our allies in Europe and across the globe? Where’s your Poland and what are you trading Czechoslovakia for?

Fully agreed. There’s a huge difference between tactical appeasement, and being cowards. Chamberlain at least knew what he was doing was bad. It was trying to fix it.

American democrats don’t even have that excuse. I also doubt they will fall on their swords for the sake of those coming in who might be able to fight back either.

Failed pretty hard in Dunkirk

A lot of investment went into the RAF. Alongside the chain home radar net to guide it.

Without those, Dunkirk would have been soon followed by the invasion of the UK.

Sure, but I don’t think appeasement would have made a difference in that
It brought time, to finish the stations and build the aircraft. Given how close the RAF came to being broken, it made all the difference.
Let him dig the GOP and even deeper hole then. The more people he hurts the weaker he becomes.

Downvoting you not because I think you are wrong… the MAGA crap band will certainly sink to a new low

But because you seem to imply it would have been best to just put your head down and keep sucking…

Yeah, the maga idiots are going to be shitty regardless so why capitulate?
I didn’t mean to imply that, but I see why you got that. Oops.
Hence why I clarified… benefit of the doubt and all that

Thanks. Deleted it because either the edit didn’t go through or people wanted to be angry today.

Gotta remember not to post while distracted. Thanks! 💛

True, but like that famous saying goes, we do not negotiate with terrorists.
