Last minute bit of panic setting in - in less than a week I'll be in #Japan and besides the flight there/back and the conference days, I haven't made plans or booked hotels for the 5 days...
Bit of a scramble now. Found out too late about this train - it's full already 3 weeks out (I'm not surprised). Oh well I'll just hang out in Himi and eat buri

I can get a JR pass for the 5 days after the conference but doesn't seem worth it - I have an idea where I want to go and not too much distance covered or even Shinkansen.

Will likely just get an esim for data

Staying out of Tokyo and Kyoto to not add to the crowd...
Though heading back to Osaka, Kansai from Toyama where the conference is, I think I'll try and fit in Enryaku-ji that's Kyoto adjacent (but I'll try and do it from the Lake Biwa side)

Mostly if I book my last night at hotel in Osaka somewhere - I can just get my carry on size suitcase sent there from Toyama, so I won't have to lug it around - just a small backpack

Only taking the suitcase to bring back ~checks notes~ Glico pudding and assorted trinkets and socks from Seria and Can★Do for kids

I do want to try and get to Enryaku-ji and Hieisan - even if from the Biwa side cablecar and not from #Kyoto
Last time had a great view form Shoden-ji - with Hieisan in the distance - what a garden and borrowed landscape use there!

Ok things are falling in place finally. Some responses I finally got - means last min changes and I have to cut one day out of my plans and get to Osaka sooner.
Skipping going up to MtTateyama too - will be too cold. I'd rather head the other way - to Himi and watch the sunset on the range.

Just a couple of nights stays to figure out and book. I don't think resort to a manga cafe overnight.

Kansai JR Pass is for one day. That works great - I can get 2 of them - for the long travel days
