What a stupid way to package fabric. Now I have to pearn how to iron AND how to sew!? (Okay I've ironed once or thrice before lol, but still, very stupid way to sell a square of fabric).

Okay ironing was going to be involved regardless, because part of this is going to be zig-zagged repeatedly into the card slots of a wallet. Anyway, I should probably wait until daytime so I can go pick up some iron-on interfacing instead of making a floppy wallet with no structure.

I learn several somethings new every time I even think about going into this project. Did you know a used serger can he had for as little as $50? I don't even fully know what a serger does, so let's just cool our jets on that one for now, but good to know, for the future.

Anyway, there are probably much easier beginner projects than a wallet, but there were probably much easier beginner projects than the ones I learned to program with, but making a tax calculator is boring and so is making a dish cloth, so that's just never how I've learned anything.

I'm just going do some test runs on scrap until I get it, then do the real thing. Once I get past the card pockets, the rest of it should be easy in comparison.
Alright, went to Fabricland in the morning and got some iron on interface material, and then proceeded to completely fail at threading my machine and winding a bobbin. Guess the first time was beginners luck (or a full night of sleep, lol). Got frustrated and came back an hour or two later to try again and things went far better. Definitely just had something out of place around the tension discs the first time around.

First draft turned out a little wonky, but not bad at all for a first draft. Was still figuring out the presser foot pressure so one side got kinda splayed out a bit and I ended up with a bit of a rhombus, but I'm not mad at that for a trial run.

This isn't the wallet itself mind you. It's wide as hell on purpose cause it includes multiple sema allowances that come into play over the rest of the pattern. I don't love that the cars are super spaced out and there are only 3 slots, but baby steps. I'll do the math to get a fourth card slot in the same height eventually, and this is going to be a bifold wallet so it'll be 8 slots in the end. At least that's my current plan.

Anyway, not good, but literally my first attempt at sewing anything ever, so I'm pretty pleased with myself.

Obviously I've got to practice straight lines, and figure out the presser foot pressure, but yeah... that's what we call learning, lol.

For the curious, or the vintage sewing machine aficionados (some of whom might scoff at this particular model, but I know others are fond of them), it's a Singer Golden Touch and Sew 620. I'm quite taken with the thing, but then I'm easily taken with anything once I take it apart and nurse it back to running order (it was probably already there, it just needed to be cleaned oiled and lubed after decades of disuse).
