Both Google and Apple claim that their mobile operating systems (iOS & Android) are the most secure, reliable, and privacy friendly. Who do you believe?

@nixCraft I'm more inclined to believe Apple over Google.

Google has turned into more of an ad company as of late.

I dislike both Google and Apple, and see issues with both regarding user privacy, anti-environmentalism due to upgrade treadmills, etc.

(Recently I was surreptitiously tracked using an Apple AirTag, which I reported and delivered to my local police department. Apple should never have created nor should it continue to operate those tools for crime.)

Though Google leads the charge on Android, it's still a product of an "open" alliance.

I like Android (with the DuckDuckGo browser and privacy extensions) on my Fairphone; they enable me to incrementally de-Google and reduce the amount of data I "share".

Not to defend Apple here, but anything that has been created could be used as a tool for crimes.

It's like saying the compass shouldn't have been made because it was used to navigate ships during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade.

@johnlogic @nixCraft

I'd even make the argument that the fact that you found the device is a testament to what Apple does to prevent tracking people getting out of hand.

Companies like Tile had yet to fix the issue when Apple actively listened to people and fixed the issue relatively quickly.

@majorlinux @nixCraft

Apple hardly even pays lip service to people's privacy, security, and safety, especially those who aren't Apple customers (i.e. Android users).

Apple's "Tracker Detect" app isn't even available for my recent version of Android.

@johnlogic @majorlinux @nixCraft
Thatโ€™s because itโ€™s built into Android now. Because of Apple.
@TheZwick32 found it in settings; thanks!
@johnlogic @TheZwick32 You should try the app AirGuard from a German university (Technische Universitรคt Darmstadt). That app works well at finding trackers and tags!
