@keraba sorry for the broken part, I’ve removed those a few times without issue while thinking thanks for plastic as it becoming corroded and stuck would be a nightmare, but I have no clue about why they actually choose plastic…

The part existing at all is especially strange considering that the cap provides significantly more insurance against the crank coming off. I suspect a lawyer was involved.

(I don't think it's used to align the crank, since the splines are already keyed to only allow the crank one way.)
