Can the Rhine provide enough thermal energy for this and other large heat pumps? Yes.

On average, 2,000 m³ of water flows through the river in Mannheim every second. Lowering all of that by one °C yields 8,4 GWh of heat per hour. This equates to more than 50 of these 165 MW pumps.
