Trump's Department of Labor has a new social media ad campaign, and I thought I had seen that Aryan race vibe somewhere before, so I looked it up.

I truly hate how the Nazis always used white, tall, males in their propaganda, as if nothing else existed.

The new Trump regime ad has 13 different posters, and all characters are tall, white men.

@randahl I still wonder who will do the work that the immigrants has been doing, those that pays far less than minimum salary... the fascist logic is so flawed... I do see one winner in the long run and sadly that is #ccp #China

@aho That's been talked about, and one horrifyingly likely outcome is a kind of slavery.

Even most Americans don't know this, but slavery was not COMPLETELY abolished here: The Amendment that seems to say that (13th) actually has an explicit carve-out: "...except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted,... ." Meaning, it's totally legal to enslave imprisoned felons.

That used to be common. Prison 'chain gangs' are slave labour, for example.

@wesdym Did read this page https://legalclarity.org/how-much-do-prisoners-get-paid-while-incarcerated

Paid work in prison ranges from 0.12 to 2.00 USD depending on which prison you are in and then the prisoner may have to pay court-ordered restitution for victims, court fees, child support, cost of incarceration, so yes it could mean the prisoner will in the end not get anything at all.

In Norway they pay the prisoner to educate themselves ~5 USD/day.

@aho US prisons MAY pay prisoners for labour, but don't HAVE to. Unpaid prison labour used to be common in the US. And could be again, if there's a severe labour shortage in a critical industry such as agriculture.

That's my point. If it came to it, we CAN replace immigrant farm labour with prison labour, and prisoners in the US can be legally FORCED to do that work.

It's politically dicey. But the states most in need of farm labour are the most conservative, so it's definitely possible.

@wesdym sure that could work and the old white men wouldn't mind to imprison non white people for being Democrats to ensure that there is enough workers...

@aho That's pretty much the nightmare scenario that's not only possible, but presently feared.

Our entire system relies on checks and balances to avoid such horrors. But right now, that's not working well.

@wesdym this is kind of when Governors should raise unorganized militia to restore order... I know it will not happen and even if it would happen don't think it would help...
@aho Well over half the states in the US would probably support this. Especially farming states, who rely heavily on that kind of labour. I think they'd welcome it, in fact. I personally believe that some states are already actively working up to it.
