Worse is there is this thing going around... a “rumor” going around that people should save their SNAP / EBT / Food Stamps to get more.

Do not do this.

First, buy the things you need. Shop smart.

And I can already hear Donald Trump saying it:

Our politics have become so polarized that compromise is impossible, except in the sense of "compromise" that is more accurately applied to a ship's hull.

And unfortunately, the "centrist" wing of the Democratic party is perfectly fine with the hull-breach sense of compromise.

I (from Switzerland) assume there is no plan to end the shutdown.
I rather think they want to use the shutdown to cause riots to escalate. This will be used to justify more police/military/special force whatever name they find for gestapo to incarcarcarate people to make them work for free KZ style.

I really hope I'm wrong.

Hmm....they'll probably get a bailout to keep them afloat. But AI doesn't really have a sensible long-term business plan. Reputational harm to the brand will only increase over time. It's only going to last as long as government are willing to fund it.

With AI, I know it's 'the future', I just think it's at least another 10-15 years away before anybody figures out how to make it actually any good. I keep hearing people saying about 10% of AI is useful today, so 90% is just slop videos. The numbers are scary, too big to bail out this time.

@georgetakei As this shutdown drags on, I'm wondering if Congress will ever again convene.

They've given over to the POTUS the power of the purse, the ability to declare war, and have looked the other way while he tore down half the White House. They don't listen to their constituents nor swear in new members of Congress.

Trump, or at least the people pulling his strings, will decide they're all redundant sooner or later.
