Our politics have become so polarized that compromise is impossible, except in the sense of "compromise" that is more accurately applied to a ship's hull.

And unfortunately, the "centrist" wing of the Democratic party is perfectly fine with the hull-breach sense of compromise.

I (from Switzerland) assume there is no plan to end the shutdown.
I rather think they want to use the shutdown to cause riots to escalate. This will be used to justify more police/military/special force whatever name they find for gestapo to incarcarcarate people to make them work for free KZ style.

I really hope I'm wrong.
