It's #Kaijuktober! And to celebrate it I'm watching a #kaiju #movie every day.

Today's movie was: Godzilla, King of the Monsters! / 怪獣王ゴジラ (1956)

October isn't finished and neither am I!

This #film is an Americanization of Godzilla (1954), and a quite competent one if I might say so myself. With heavy use of body doubles and dubbed audio, it tries to gaslight you into believing the main character was there all along.

I give it 3/5 Kaiju

My favorite part is how they shoehorned the American character — played by Canadian actor Raymond Burr — into every scene, even in the ones it didn't make narrative sense, LOL.
Also, if I can perfectly understand everything a Japanese person says, chances are the dialogue was written in English and then translated. Every Japanese actor and/or actress who didn't appear in the original movie uses nothing but the most basic of Japanese 🤣
Here's my favorite part: Japanese actors and actresses speaking perfect English and being incapable of correctly pronouncing Japanese names, and suddenly reverting to perfect Japanese for a minute or two (because they left dialogue from the original movie).
What's with that tagline on the poster? "Mightiest melodrama". You better put some respect on the original movie.
The guy dubbing Takashi Shimura was incapable of pronouncing the word "phenomenon", that had me in tears, like aren't you supposed to be a voice actor or something? 😂
