#SteppingStoneSongs is a great topic for #TuneTuesday.

Let me start with this: the bands which drew me closer to the heavy side were Papa Roach and Rammstein.

So song no. 1 would be: Papa Roach - Last Resort

Cheesy, I know, but I was still very, very young.

Of course, this was followed by Linkin Park (which made the connection to one of my best friends), Alien Ant Farm, … nu metal in general.

The next of my #steppingstonesongs blew me out of the water. It was a wild mix of brilliant singing, rough and fast riffs and brutality I couldn‘t imagine before. It was Chop Suey by System of a Down:

After that, I was getting into mainstream metal at the time.. A little Nightwish, Blind Guardian, Metallica (I actually really enjoy St. Anger - I was angry at that time)

When I moved out for university, one of my new friends shared his music collection. I got to know Rage, Grave Digger… they fit in nicely.

The next of my #steppingstonesongs were a true epiphany. They opened the door to my favourite genre: I got my first glimpse at #melodicdeathmetal due to Skyforger by Amorphis and System by In Flames

I mean, the artwork of Skyforger is so awesome!!

Maybe a year ago some of the nice people at metalhead.club were talking about more progressive death metal and blackgaze.

I‘m always curious, so I followed the conversation and put Alcest, Deafheaven, White Ward and Møl on my listening list.

Fraktur by MØL was One of the #steppingstonesongs into this genre:

And what can I say, all of them are regulars now.

Oh, and chronologically before this, I really started to get into more „classical“ black metal. One of the #steppingstonesongs here was definitely Bathory - One rode to ASA bay

That’s it, my contributions to #TuneTuesday
