Our local Meshtastic network is moving to EdgeFastLow setting (EFL) because of the LongFast being almost useless. There is so much traffic from energy meters and some continuous Lorawan-traffic that packets are lost constantly.

Once we switched few nodes to EFL the change was dramatic. Suddenly all traffic was quick and trace-routes travelled many hops easily forth-and-back.

EFL is basically 62.5kHz bandwidth setting in the low portion of the allowed 868Mhz frequency range.

#meshtastic

@OH3CUF anywhere you can suggest for further reading on this? It’s the first time I’ve heard of this EFL setting.

@acawley It is based on this idea: https://www.meshhubmids.com/edge.html

A bit more info also here: https://meshpirkanmaa.org/

Also this image probably shows more about the problem (the thick block is non-meshtastic traffic here in Tampere)

@OH3CUF thank you! I’ll do some reading on it. I’ve only just recently picked up my first SDR too, so I’d be keen to visually see the 868MHz traffic here in Cornwall, South West UK.

@acawley @OH3CUF

A lot of UK meshers switched to #meshcore on Narrow settings, which is basically the same idea ;)

Sadly Cornwall seems to be airgaped from the rest of the country ...

@fdlamotte @acawley @OH3CUF interesting.. did you experience changes on radio coverage between narrow bandwidth and medium fast?

@GillesBonnet @acawley @OH3CUF

I've moved from a setting similar to LongFast, and I noticed difference

Reliability of the link is definitely better

One thing I can do and I did not manage before, is bridging home to workplace (I had only achieved 1 way, and could only contact work 500m from home in a higher place)

Could also reproduce some 30km link I had done before with a yagi with a rak blade and a gizont whip. This time I could do some queries on the repeaters and send some public msgs.

@GillesBonnet @acawley @OH3CUF

Have a look at uk traffic here (20 hops links are very common ...) :

@fdlamotte @acawley @OH3CUF repeaters are adding in numbers daily in MC, so I'd hope that airgap is not long for this world!
