Nate Allen@yantor3d well I have a rain cape now, just have been too chicken to try it. I'll need a practice run before I try my actual commute.
😀🚲@mossyfoot @yantor3d make sure to practice riding with your rain cape in the rain if you want to know where it snags, puddles, or how else your pants are getting soaked (lack of front mudflap, and often road spray comes back from not enough width and/or top/front on the front fender.)
Mine has a belt inside to prevent blowing up in the back, and hand straps meant to go across your palms. I also had to add some elastic to points on the side to be able to see past with my handlebar mirror.
@enobacon @mossyfoot I hadn't thought about not being able to see the mirror...
I think I will end up having to wear my rain pants and rubber shoes anyway - my normal shoes are basically sponges and take forever to dry.
I think the big advantage of the rain cape will be that it will keep water from pooling on me - which I've noticed tends to happen with my more upright riding posture.
@yantor3d @mossyfoot keeps your front and lap dry and if you can keep your gloves mostly under it, the rain can't run down the glove or up the sleeve. I'm not sure about the clever hood's hand openings, I think you're better off having a hold of the leading edge covering your handlebars, but of course watch for what it might snag on and cause steering surprises, you may have to lean forward to unhook.
