My little #TagPush project, which I initially created for myself to seek out content across the fediverse based on a hashtag, is keeping busy since I launched it publicly 3 months ago.

It looks like this weekend will push the number of boosts to over 150k posts. 🥳

More info here.

Why do we need this, why not just follow a hashtag?

I get asked this a lot. The answer is simple. The fediverse is distributed so there is no main server or collection of posts. When you follow a hashtag, your own server can only show posts which have landed on it. So if you are on a smaller server, you miss lots of posts. Tagpush tries to scoop them up across the fedi and boost them to your own server.

@daj nice. Now I know who has been “boosting” me 😊

Btw, I had a look at the tech account, but couldn’t see any toots.

@gobino the Tech account is one of the busiest. Currently, it has boosted 35,366 posts! Most of the accounts don't show what they have previously boosted.
@daj This is cool! Giving a couple of them a follow. I’ve boosted your post too. 🤘🏻
@Aaron Awesome, and thanks for the boost. I appreciate it.

@daj After following Tech for a few days I have 2 key suggestions:

1. Filter out marketing posts.
2. Filter out AI posts.

Generally a lot of tagged posts I’m seeing are stuffed with tons of hashtags. I personally see those posts as spam.

@Aaron Thanks. Given that these are bot accounts, with no human curation, it's challenging trying to use the correct logic to filter without precluding genuine posts. Any suggestions welcome.

I already filter out a number of bot accounts, specifically for tech as the volumes are high. You can of course block the accounts too and would never see them in your own timeline.

@daj My only thought is to offer different levels of accounts. Tech only, tech minus other hashtags, etc. not sure how easy that would be to configure. I recognize it can get messy fairly quick.

@daj

I've been using your service for some time. Thank you for that.

@bsg thanks. I'm glad you find it useful.
