Dear Mastodon hive #DIY minds: the silicone #sealant in our #shower is coming away and needs replacing. Pretty sure I can (just) do it, but everyone says it needs to cure for 24 hours, and Mrs R does insist on her evening shower. Would it work if I rigged up a sort of tent of plastic or alfoil over it, attached with tape and/or masking tape? Replace sealant in the morning, fix tent in late evening, remove and dry off again after shower?
@carusb I don't think it's worth the risk of having it leaking. Escaping water can do so much damage. Could go away off somewhere else with a shower that Mrs R can use instead? Probably wouldn't suggest outdoors with a hosepipe if you want to live though 😀
@carusb Could you replace the sealant right _after_ the evening shower? I wouldn't think letting it cure for 23 of the 24 hours would be a problem.
@jbaty Ah, there's an essential morning shower as well!
@carusb Most silicone now of of days is touch dry after a few hours. So do the DIY early am, and if you aren't sure a "shower hat" as you spoke about will do it, as the plastic will not stick to the silicone by evening time.
(not a pro just a DIY person)
@carusb How attached to the idea is she that her shower
a/ be warm, and
b/ not be in the garden with the hose?
@beemoh Oooh, you could get me into trouble! OTOH I'm still quite attached to the idea of living... (;-)
@carusb is there not sone evening distraction sufficient to skip one evening shower? Cinema? Theater? A nice meal out?
@tmcfarlane The only way round it that I can see would be to do it on the morning before we go away... but it already takes us until almost noon to get going!
