Abandon the American technology dominance.

If we don’t, their current far-right government will spy on us and influence our elections.

Just like China tries, just like Russia does. But they’ve got backdoors, and they’ve been caught using them.

It sure would be dangerous if a corporation beholden to a brutal autocrat became structurally essential to your country's continued operations, huh? -- If you'd like an essay-formatted version of this thread to read or share, here's a link to it on pluralistic.net, my surveillance-free, ad-free, tracker-free blog: https://pluralistic.net/2025/10/20/post-american-internet/#huawei-with-american-characteristics 1/

@gimulnautti @pluralistic Apple and Google are worse threats than Huawei ever will be.

Huawei doesn't control a major app store outside of China. Apple and Google do.

Pixel devices are no longer fully open devices, which was Google's main advantage over Huawei.

Even the EU age verification law is making the EU give into Trump.

We need the NRA of tech rights groups. Like @eff, but more political. In fact I'd love to start one.

@neel @pluralistic @eff I’m game.

Europe has Pirate Parties, some of which are in parliament. They’re full of activists that are into this!

@gimulnautti @pluralistic @eff lol ik about Pirate Parties. They need a resurgence.

But in the US' awful two-party system, and even outside the US, we need a NRA-style lobbying group for digital rights as well.
