Daring Fireball
@daringfireball this is likely because Norway is part of the EEA
@daringfireball I do love ‘historical reasons’ as a euphemism for the Troubles & the Good Friday Agreement.

@daringfireball also, second ever mention of Northern Ireland on DF? We’re going up in the world!

Not sure if you’re watched Derry Girls John but I think you’d be a fan. We’re an acerbic and witty people & the show captures that beautifully.

@daringfireball Norway is part of the European single market so has aligned standards.

@daringfireball > While poking fun at EU regulations leading Apple not to include a power adapter

Why would a sensible person do this?

+ environment
+ consumer choice

2 options should be available:
1. Cheaper computer only
2. Pay extra for a charger

Stickers & iPhone chargers cut by Apple for environmental reasons.

Laptop chargers bundled whether needed or not - that’s the side you’re not poking fun at/think is the right play.

@daringfireball

That's good information. Thank you, "CA"!

@daringfireball Norwegian here. Because of Norway's EEA (european economic area which means free movement of goods, services and people) agreement with the EU, most single market regulations that direct how goods are sold in the EU (think usb c etc) affect norway as well. So we're not part of EU, but still get its regulations shoved down our throats.

@daringfireball

As always, Gruber can't even read a Wikipedia page or watch a short CGP Grey video to learn anything about anything.

But bold expert opinions? He has them plenty.

@daringfireball Norway is in the EU single market, so has to obey all rules (though its not in the customs union, so it's free to set tariffs to whatever it wants and negotiate its own FTA).
@daringfireball At least in Germany the new MacBooks are around 100 EUR cheaper compared to the previous models. Not sure if this is due to the lack of a charger or adjusted currency exchange rates. Just letting you know.
