While the trademark LA+ from 1916 looks like one of the older uses of "+", I think it is safe to say that that the modern use of "+" is probably from the 2010's Hulu Plus (aka h+).

This has now caused a real "Who's on First" situation at work, where we have a Mac Mini connected to a boardroom Samsung TV which thinks the Mac Mini is an Apple TV. A staff member was trying to select Apple TV and it really wasn't clear if they were trying the Mac Mini or the Apple TV service available on the TV!

@atpfm I am way behind listening to ATPs, so I am a month late here- but I thought the Overtime discussion on Alexa+ was great. I have been cynical that LLMs can make a “good Siri” for a long time, e.g. :

@[email protected] I don’t know that the bottleneck of a “good Siri“ is the quality of the language model. Google owns Gemini and there is nothing on android that matches our expectations of a good LLM-based Siri. It remains to be seen if LLMs are actually good/capable for an assistant that can do things and not just chat. Witness the Alexa plus struggles.
