#PamBondi just convinced a federal judge to force a gun rights group to hand over its membership list

That's a gun owner registry

Yeah, you know what that means: Someone is coming for your guns and it ain't Obama.

@kbsez Funny, we do not have a 2nd amendment in the EU. But in Art 8 of the EU Charter, data protection has been codified as a fundamental human right.

I think it comes down to priorities ...

@DP0 Americans maintain a childish mythology about the role of firearms, especially in our founding, which is not only objectively and provably false, but isn't even logical, completely ignorant of how power really works in the world -- in this or any other country. In truth, it's just a very elaborately rationalized, emotionally charged scheme to allow insecure or stunted people to play with extremely dangerous toys, because it makes them feel better. Never mind how many lives it costs.
@wesdym Yes, indeed. It is also noteworthy that the 2nd amendment was adopted in 1791, a time when firearms still were bulky, frontloading, and unprecise "portable cannons" ... cartridge weapons were not even invented at that time - let alone modern automatic rifles.

@DP0 I've often made that point. At that time, the most formidable man-portable firearm in the world was the Brown Bess, which in the hands of a well-practiced fusilier might achieve a maximum ROF of 4. For comparison, a stock (unmodified) Bushmaster AR-15 can achieve TWENTY TIMES that. Modified, more.

No one in 1791 believed that any individual had a right to a private platoon. More, before 2008, States had UNLIMITED weapons control, AS ORIGINALLY INTENDED.
