As @liztai points out 'falling from a cliff and not die' is a neccessary staple in wuxia. But here we have the opposite trope that's even more common 'sitting on a roof and contemplating' (and sometimes drink). It happens so often I'm starting to question why wuxia houses aren't built with rooftop balconies. Does this have any bearing in history, or is just such an alluring picture every production falls for it?

@MarthaCrimson I think the apparent inaccessibility of a belvedere-/balcony-less roof is an important part of the trope.
@eishiya
I agree. The fun is kinda' lost if it's easy to get there.

It does make me wonder if they have been reading too much manga from the 1980's ?

So many manga around ninja with roof top battles...

"The Animatrix" comes to mind more recently.

@kim this trope has existed waaay before manga @MarthaCrimson

@liztai @MarthaCrimson

Looks like I have some reading to do then.

Have some titles I can search on?

@kim look up the works of Gu Long and Jin Yong if you can. There are some English translations floating around on the Internet. @MarthaCrimson
