By now you know that Microsoft is now defaulting to saving new Word documents directly to OneDrive. I guess Excel will be the next inline. The cynical take is that this is incredibly convenient for them, especially if they plan on using that data to train future LLMs. Imagine paying for software only to have your data automatically funneled into their cloud. Plus, what happens when you're offline and need those files? Just use the LibreOffice and just say no to all Microsoft products.
I am getting really tired of that word 'Just" in these kinds of rants. For a huge amount of people, there's no such thing as "just switch", because in a lot of cases these people are considered "just" a minority that are "just" so difficult to keep in mind when developing these alternatives, I bet I only "just" made you think of them again "just" now. So with all due respect, kindly "just" f*ck off telling me what I should "Just" switch to until #accessibility actually "just" works. Until then, "just" do better at being "just". Ok? Can we do that?
This coming from "just" another #accessibility professional who sometimes "just" gets a little tired of bringing it nice and polite and "just" wants to tell people to "just" feckin' follow the myriad accessibility standards that have only existed for, I dunno ... "just" a couple of decades?
I do feel I need to nuance that this isn't aimed at anyone specifially; the example at the beginning of this thread is just that, an example of the behavior I'm referencing.
The underlying thought is true though: People, particularly a subset of the #fedi, are VERY quik to tell people to "just XYZ". #accessibility aside this is almost never a "just" to the person you're talking to, and the person in question is going to get their feathers ruffled by you indicating what they may have actually already tried to do, for days, is a "just" to you. They might feel stupid, powerless, dismissed, a whole bunch of other things you're probably not trying to convey but is definitely being received.
Feel the urge to tell someone to "just" do something? Stop, think, and maybe just don't. ALl you gotta do is just think from somebody else's perspective for a change. nNothin' to it, right?

@zersiax They pointed out a problem and made a recommendation on what you can do to avoid it.

Your frustration on that recommendation not being perfect (though others noted that LibreOffice appears to be at least bearable already) are comprehensible, but you can still "F*ck off" yourself for shouting at those merely promoting **FOSS** solutions when the alternative is that everybody gets screwed by MS. Tiredness does not earn you pity points for a dick move.

@Isofruit You clearly missed the point of my thread. For one, I'm not shouting at anyone; I deliberately took the usernames out of my reply and even pointed out I'm not targeting anyone specifically. I also specifically had/have a problem with the concept of telling people to "just" switch to XYZ, irrespective of FOSS, as it is incredibly dismissive of peoples' experiences as the MANY agreeing sentiments should hopefully somewhat point out.
What I am pointing out is that decades of neglecting a huge number of people's experience has led to an environment where these people can't *just* do anything because they have to either get good and learn how to code exceedingly complicated stacks in order to get basic access everybody else takes for granted, or wait months, years or even decades for someone to realize they exist and code themselves out of the corner their predecessors coded them in where this is concerned.
@Isofruit Amusingly your final note clearly illustrates what you call an imperfect solution; I can't get annoyed about people making sure that not EVERYONE gets f*cked by Microsoft, I just need to be ok with the fact that apparently I, and millions of others, are not part of this version of "everyone". So yes, I am going to be nice about it 99 out of 100 times, but the 100th time, someone telling me to "just" do something that would decimate my productivity, ensure I can't be a proper part of society and lag behind on a bunch of other things is going to get me a little prickly. The needs of the many outweighing the needs of the few is a bit of a sour lemon for the few on the other side of that equation, and that will at times lead to people speaking out. I'm sorry if that's inconvenient
@zersiax Keep your digs, pseudo apology and putting words in my mouth to yourself. You're not being inconvenient by taking a moral stance, in the style of your rant you're just being destructive and torpedo'ing others advocacy for no gain to yourself. Apparently because they weren't perfectly mindful in their wording for whatever reason that may have been. Rationalize that for yourself as you wish.
