PSA for Cambridge (UK) people: short-notice closure of the cycle/footway along the southern busway, from Hills Road to #Addenbrookes spur, from next Monday (12 Feb), for 7 weeks (until 29 Mar).

Closed Guided Busway section could reopen soon after two years

Part of the Guided Busway will undergo safety improvement works for six weeks before it can reopen

Cambridgeshire County Council statement with much the same info about the imminent 7-week southern busway closure (may be a less irritating website than cambridge-news in original post ☝️)

Next week, work will start on a section of the Guided Busway to implement an innovative busway safety measure to allow the busway to return to full, two-way operation.

#CambridgeUK southern busway path closure update (see ☝️): the council's statement now says that it'll be partially open some of the time, south of Long Road (still can't go end-to-end for 7 weeks).

#CambridgeUK southern busway foot/cycle path reopening delayed by a week, until Saturday 6 April. (Buses will start running on time.)
(This is the path between Cambridge rail station and #Addenbrookes; see ☝️ for details. If it opens on this new schedule, it'll have been closed for 8 weeks, in all.)

#CambridgeUK southern busway foot/cycle path (rail station to #Addenbrookes, see ☝️) reopening apparently delayed *again* -- county council last said it was supposed to reopen today, but e.g. Redditors report it still closed.
A closure sign on site has reportedly been changed from "7 weeks" to "9 weeks", implying it might be closed until the 15th.
(Sigh.)
Confirmation that the #CambridgeUK southern busway foot/cycle path (rail station to Addenbrookes, see ☝️) will not reopen before Mon 15 April.
From County Council via City Cllr Olaf Hauk on Facebook (sigh) yesterday: "We hoped it would open on 6 April, but due to delivery issues with the final sections of gates and panels we need a further week to complete the work".
This has been pretty poor; >9 weeks' closure (and counting) of a major active travel route with 1 week's notice and v poor comms.
#CambridgeUK southern busway path (station to #Addenbrookes) was traversable end-to-end this evening!
Probably not Officially Open until Monday, but barriers have been removed (by someone) since last night, and no obvious hazards -- just two temporary fence panels, leaving no hole in the fence bigger than a badger (and those holes are clearly deliberate), so hopefully it stays open through the weekend.
(Hopefully I can stop spamming the #CambridgeUK hashtag about this now, good grief)

Thank goodness for that -- I was veering toward sarcasm.

(picture stolen from, gosh, he's on here, @drmikepj -- http://moblog.net/view/922784/will-i-be-on-the-busway-soon )

Will I be on the busway soon?

Stagecoach have clearly got fed up with the busway delays - the slogan on the buses used to read

Advance PSA for #CambridgeUK people: once again, the cycle/footway along the southern busway, around the #Addenbrookes spur, will be closed from 'early October' to install (more) fencing.
I haven't seen detail of timings/phasing yet, but I expect access from the north between Long Road and the #Addenbrookes spur to be closed some of the time, as well as presumably access from the south (Trumpington).

New fencing to be installed on the Guided Busway’s Southern Section

New fencing will start to be implemented along the Guided Busway from next month (October).

Cambridgeshire County Council
#CambridgeUK southern busway foot/cycleway closure update: there's signage between Long Road and the #Addenbrookes spur saying that bit will be closed from 6th Oct (next Monday) for 5 weeks (=> ends 9 Nov). (To fit fencing, see previous post ☝️.)
I didn't see signage on or south of the Addenbrookes spur (toward Trumpington), so I guess that bit's happening later, and that for now a diversion via say Lime Avenue would work to access the spur. Not seen any more official communication online.
Sounds like the start of the fencing works closing the #CambridgeUK southern busway path (between Long Road and the #Addenbrookes spur) has been delayed to Sunday 12 Oct. Presumably the end of the closure will be delayed too (dunno if the busway changing from completely closed to one-way running might extend the works beyond the planned 5 weeks?)

As well as the southern #CambridgeUK busway/path closure (☝️), the northern busway and foot/cycle path through #Histon will be closed weekday daytimes (0930-1600) from this Monday through Fri 7 Nov, again to install fencing.

Some previously usable crossing points will be permanently closed as a result (particularly affecting routes from #Girton), causing some consternation; I'm not familiar with the details, but this seems like a good guide:
https://www.hihub.info/news/survey-opens-to-gather-data-on-busway-crossings/
@womump This is just to install fencing to block off the informal crossings, not the main fencing work which is due later. The council are adamant that the peasants in Histon and Impington must be punished for their uprising at the recent meeting. Within a couple of days they'd already dug up the paths and put in temporary fencing. These are paths and crossings that existed for decades before the busway; the council appeared to just bless arbitrary crossings as being official
@sborrill Yeah, I figured from the fencing being installed only "between the St Audrey's Close crossing and the Hain Daniels factory".
https://www.hihub.info/news/delays-and-confusion-as-council-distorts-residents-actions/ vs https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/news/people-advised-not-to-attend-organised-walk is hard to see as having been in very good faith by the county council, indeed.
Delays and confusion as Council distorts residents’ actions | HI HUB

Guided buses were diverted through the centre of Histon on both Saturday and Sunday last weekend, after Cambridgeshire County Council shared misinformation accusing H&I residents of arranging an organised walk on the Busway.
