It’s a "crisis" when immigrants "take jobs away", but "innovation" when machines do. Funny.
@shamjaff yeah and while the imigration „crisis“ is imagined, the „AI“ „disruption“ will have very real cataclysmic effects
@shamjaff
Terribly myopic and worrying world view. People who are scared that immigrants will take their jobs don't stop to think that these are jobs they wouldn't want to do, and jobs that complement theirs so their company can keep running and employing them.
Just my 2 cents worth: I'm convinced that the decrease in global population will lead to western countries doing a 180 and start competing to attract immigrants. Well within our live times. Seeing as machines don't pay into pensions.
@shamjaff
But I don't mean to say that machines/robots aren't a thread to employment, they are. And AI.
It's all such a complex situation, the myopic people react on an emotional basis and don't employ analytical thinking skills. That's a big worry.
Sorry, didn't mean to go on and on.
@shamjaff And immigrants never took any job away, but LLMs are, too.

@shamjaff fun fact: neither the immigrants nor the machines are the ones “taking” here. Neither have power to do that!
@shamjaff no it's a crisis when blue collar work is taken away. when white collar work is taken away that's a bold innovative cost-cutting measure from a market leader
@shamjaff in fact, those machines can only exist because they are being trained by exploiting labor abroad.
@shamjaff machines don't have will to take away nothing. It's corporations. Big corporations and millionaires (with their machines).

@shamjaff These are Schrödinger immigrants: they are "refusing to accept jobs" and "take our money from social system" instead. Also same time the "take jobs away".

To double crisis stated from the fascists.

@shamjaff Only capitalism takes jobs away.
@shamjaff Funny enough, the US is expelling immigrants who do manual labour on low wage jobs and developing technologies that's supposed to replace workers who do intellectual labour on high paid jobs. I wonder what's coming next for the American worker.
@shamjaff up until the Butlerian Jihad, that is.
@shamjaff @angiebaby
That is because the Immigrants are more effective because they don’t mind getting their hands dirty and the Machines are not more effective because they are vaporware.
@shamjaff
Because the tech bros behind 'innovation' are not invested in immigration.
