Our conference is preceeded by a «research school» for junior researchers (typically: PhD students). The RS starts in the afternoon of day 1, then two full days (day 2 and day 3), and ends around noon of day 4 (with transportation to the main conference).

What is a typical program for such a #ResearchSchool? I can also include tourist activities or some hiking (it‘s in Switzerland, after all), it takes place early June, so evenings have day light

@CerstinMahlow definitely something involving making connections to peers (could be hiking!) and definitely something about careers. Then a lot depends on the discipline I guess
@CerstinMahlow (i was a keynote at such a research school once, at Les Diablerets, and it was very enjoyable for me. I can't promise the researchers got as much out of it as I did!)

@tomstafford Thanks! Did you do just the keynote or were you around for some practical things based on your keynote?

Having an established researcher showcase sth is always impressive, but how did they actually DO these things?

@CerstinMahlow i just did the keynote (although normally I would be very happy - enthusiastic even - to get more involved and do something interactive rather than just talk)
@CerstinMahlow Hiking would be great. Our PhD students organized something like this themselves. They had eg panels about different career paths, grant writing workshops, mental health workshops, etc. Also an unconference type session might be nice.
@tschfflr Thanks! As the field is „writing research,“ I was thinking of having them actually write something. A senior researcher will do a session on „getting your research published,“ so sth on „grant proposal writing“ would be very fitting indeed
