Headsup to anyone who follows @Flipboard accounts:

Some of them post extremely frequently because they're run by news agencies etc, and you're getting a firehose of articles.

You can narrow this down to articles about specific topics by following the account's "magazines", sub-accounts that only show posts on certain topics.

For example @AssociatedPress posts all Associated Press articles, but @entertainment-AssociatedPress is just AP's entertainment posts.

Here's how to follow Flipboard magazines:

1. Go to a Flipboard account's profile and open its "original page" (here's how to do that: https://fedi.tips/what-are-original-pages-in-mastodon)
2. Click on a magazine you want to follow
3. Click on the magazine's Fediverse address, it looks like @ (something) @ flipboard.com
4. Paste the address into the search box in Mastodon, the magazine's profile will appear which you can follow

NOTE: In the past magazines didn't work due to federation issues, but that has been fixed.

There is an even easier way to follow magazines if you're already following a Flipboard account:

1. When a Flipboard account posts, look at the section marked "Posted into" at the bottom. This mentions the magazine it was posted to.
2. If you want to follow that magazine, click on it and then click follow
3. When you have enough magazines from a Flipboard account, unfollow the main account and you'll just get posts from its magazines

@FediFollows @Flipboard @AssociatedPress Welp, I just used the circles feature of Friendica (they are called lists on Mastodon and kinda work the same). Some of the more noisy are restricted to it, so when I open that circle I get something like 20-30 new posts (or more) in a span of just 2 hours 😁

@petrescatraian

Yeah, you can do it with Lists or equivalent on other platforms too!

But magazines may be easier for some people and is an option that didn't exist before, so I'm trying to highlight it πŸ™‚

Thanks @FediFollows for helping everyone have a better fedi experience!
