Greg Newby (@gbnewby), CEO of PGLAF and driving force behind Project Gutenberg since 1991, has been diagnosed with aggressive pancreatic cancer. For over 30 years, he has guided PG, supported volunteers, and helped launch Distributed Proofreaders, now PG’s main source of new eBooks. Since Michael Hart’s passing in 2011, Greg has kept the project thriving. Friends, family, and the PG community send him strength, prayers, and gratitude for his lasting contributions.

As an occasional Distributed Proofreader, I'm really devastated to hear it; I hope his good work continues its excellence under @gluejar 's oversight!
@gutenberg_org @gbnewby That is pretty rough. I wish him the best, although I have no idea what "prayers" are or would do.
@gutenberg_org @gbnewby So sorry to hear that. PG has been a glowing light in my mind for a very long time.
@gutenberg_org @gbnewby Oh no! Sending all the strength I can muster. F*** cancer!
@gutenberg_org @gbnewby Difficult news to hear. Much thanks to Greg and what he has done for PG.
@gutenberg_org @gbnewby this is a project that has quietly influenced my career and life as well as the lives and technology and careers of many others.
@gutenberg_org @gbnewby sorry to hear this, but such a great person and such a great initiative. Wishing him all the strength in his fight with cancer.
@gutenberg_org @gbnewby Greg Newby has also been serving generously as Editor for the Open Grid Forum for many years, guiding many groups through the process of creating the many public documents available at https://ogf.org/documents and lately contributing to uploading standards ready for broader adoption to other standards developing organizations. We appreciate these contributions deeply and also wish to convey our deep thanks and regards.

I am so sorry to hear about the diagnosis.

Those are two of the best things on the internet, and I am really grateful for the decades of generous work. Thank you.

@gutenberg_org

Thank you @gbnewby

I am really grateful for your generous work.

This is just gut-wrenching!
I know @gbnewby from his time as CTO of #ComputeCanada during a time where we went from having thirty-plus #HPC clusters of various sizes in >20 data centres to having only four big systems in as many data centres.

My thoughts go out to Greg and his family and I wish them all the strength they need in such a difficult time!
